The STORMS Consortium was established in 2020 to develop the STORMS reporting guidelines. STORMS was initiated through funding by that National Cancer Institute 1U01CA230551 Exploiting public metagenomic data to uncover cancer-microbiome relationships (to the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy, PI: Levi Waldron, Co-Investigators Heidi Jones, Jennifer Dowd, Curtis Huttenhower, Nicola Segata). The checklist was initially informed by efforts to standardize key information from hundreds of published microbiome studies in order to identify studies employing comparable methods or reporting similar results.
